Guys. What do you think of wearing boat shoes/deck shoes without socks? Are they a good dress up shoe? Back in 85, which was the year I started JR. High, I seen a lot of boys wear boat shoes without socks. I had quite a few deck shoes (or better known as decks) and I never wear socks in them. Anybody out there like deck shoes?

I remember the guy from Pretty in Pink, James Spader, wearing those in the high school scenes...he had on those white baggy pants with that blazer & he wore those boat shoes with no socks! I had that image perfect in my head when I read your question and just felt compelled to answer!"

boat shoes with socks or no socks? are you suppose to wear socks with boat shoes? is it ok to wear boat shoes with slacks (long pants), for a casual formal look?

are there any socks specially made for boat shoes? i would wear no socks, but my feet smell bad when i don't wear socks.

Is it cool for young men to wear casual shoes without socks on? Dose wearing casual shoes like canvas boat shoes for example look better without socks. Just for everyday wear like with jeans, T Shirt ect, not formal like in the office ect. What do girls think of it, dose it look better? And also I lived in a flat with a bunch of girls and its a bit of a taboo subject, if a guys unfortunate enough to have to take his shoes off, girls can get a little bitchy sometimes about bare feet.

jwenting replied: "personally I don't care. Whatever you're comfortable with... If they care more about your clothes than about your personality, they're too shallow to take seriously anyhow. Myself, I can't wear socks that cover the ankles or higher because of an alergy (ankle gets itchy, red, flaky skin, whenever I put on socks). And no, shoes don't have to get smelly from wearing them without socks. Depends on how much you sweat and you may well sweat more with socks on depending on your skin, the material of the shoes and the material of the socks."

How Do You Remove The Smell From Boat Shoes? So I've been wearing this pair of boat shoes for a while (canvas outer). Since they're boat shoes, I wear them without socks. Recently they've been smelling really bad. What should I do? I have very good foot hygiene, so that's not the problem. Any advice would help. Thanks.

cat38skip replied: "The problem is that your feet sweat in the shoes and bacteria grow and you have that delightful odor. Since they are canvas, You can wash them or you could use shoe deodorizer spray or powder. I have found some success with both that or lysol spray and setting them out in the sun to dry and bake."

marc d replied: "the best boat shoe I ever found is none !! meaning no shoes, on the docks, yes they look the part, on a boat they are not worth the money, as moisture, sweat, and heat is a great combo for fungus, mold, and as you already know !! take a good smell of a bilge and you will have the same combination."

termite replied: "Get another pair or couple of pairs. Alternate which pair you use. Use one for a day, leave to air dry on day two and three while you wear the other pairs. Gotta let them dry completely."
